The Stop Gang Violence Program is a community-based, family-centered effort designed to help youth who have been adjudicated for juvenile offenses, including gang activity. The gang involved youth in this program will be referred by the Juvenile Court, police department, Department of Juvenile Services, Department of Social Services and/or school administration.
The key services includes: anti-gang counseling sessions, integrating the Phoenix Curriculum(self-efficacy skills), parent enhancement support group sessions, community seminars and sports and brotherhood games(basketball and flag football) at area recreation centers.
The sessions will educate parents on identifying gang signs and symbols while redirecting youth away from the gang culture. Based on initial assessments, youth and/or families will be directed to the appropriate service providers (substance-abuse,etc.). Take Charge Program will help to develop a service plan for the youth that will establish goals and priorities to get out of a gang, stay in school, and become a healthy, happy and productive citizen.
