Structured group counseling program serving youth who have been arrested for vehicle theft provides intensive counseling and fulfillment of sanctions imposed by court. Curriculum emphasizes responsible and effective social skills while building discipline and helping youth increase pride in themselves, their family, and culture. Parents accompany youth during the intensive group counseling sessions. The Take Charge Program’s Family Strengthening, Behavior Modification, and Academic Enhancement is used as the core curriculum. In addition, parents are required to participate in bimonthly Parenting Enhancement Sessions.
The Take Charge Program conducts 6 to 8 vehicle theft prevention seminars for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade male students in middle schools and high schools located in high vehicle theft areas. Approximately 1,800 students attend seminars over a one-year period and are challenged to sign a pledge not to be involved in vehicle-related theft offenses and to challenge their peers not to be involved
