The Youth Diversion Program is a 12 to 16 week program, created to modify negative behavior, enhance academic performance and to strengthen families. Youth and families meet once a week for group sessions. Following are some of the topics addressed during these sessions.
- Poor grades and school attitude
- Hanging out with negative peers
- Disrespectful to teachers and others
- Poor perception of positive adulthood
- Family issues and family strengthening
Non-Court Ordered Youth Diversion and Family Strengthening Counseling Program – Structured group counseling program serving youth referred by Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, Juvenile Court; Prince George’s County Department of Juvenile Services; Prince George’s County Public School System; Prince George’s County Department of Social Services; and other agencies. Also, parents enroll youth who are not court ordered, but at high risk of getting involved in the juvenile justice system. Parents accompany youth to the two-hour intensive group counseling sessions. The Take Charge Program’s Family Strengthening, Behavior Modification, and Academic Enhancement is used as the core curriculum. In addition, parents are required to participate in the bimonthly Parenting Enhancement Program.
